Insurance Services Considered Essential
|As anticipated, Missouri Governor Mike Parson issued a statewide stay-at-home order this evening effective at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2020, until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2020. MAIA is pleased to inform our membership that our efforts were successful in ensuring that the insurance industry is considered essential workforce in Missouri. The governor’s order references guidance issued by the United States Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). This guidance states, in part, that Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce includes,
“Workers who are needed to provide, process and maintain systems for processing, verification, and recording of financial transactions and services, including payment, clearing, and settlement; wholesale funding; insurance services; consumer and commercial lending; and capital markets activities.” (emphasis added)
You can read the text from the governor’s order here. One item to be cognizant of is that the order allows local jurisdictions to be more restrictive than this order. While we would hope that is not the case with any government locale, as it would seem punitive to those affected citizens, it is still a part of the order.
